You bought a goat kid, now what?
Here's some information about transporting your new kid safely home to you.
Most of our kids leave our farm at 3-6 weeks old. Health certificates and any testing required to ship an animal to your location is at the buyers expense. We will facilitate the Vet appointment and forward the paid invoice to you at that time. Re-payment for the invoice must be made prior to the animal leaving our property.
There are two options for transporting kids.
1. Ground Transportation - this is usually door to door delivery of your kid. It's important to use a reliable transporter, as they will need to care for your baby for an extended period of time.
Transportation is at the buyers expense and can sometimes take some time to figure out. It's best to begin working on your transport plans as soon as you find out you will be getting a kid. Here are some recommendations for ground transporters:
Van Go Animal Transport
Diamond Animal Transport
Nigerian Dwarf Express (kids must be weaned)
2. Air Shipping
Delta Cargo Air transport for kids may be an option.
There is an additional $100 fee due to the extra time involved in getting kids to the airport and back (sometimes multiple times each shipping).
In addition, Air shipping requires an approved crate. We will purchase the crate and forward the invoice to you at that time. Re-payment for the invoice must be made prior to the kid leaving our property. Flight reservations will be booked by us within 2 weeks of departure. Delta Cargo does not allow live animals to be transported when temperatures are below 20°F (-7°C) or above 80°F (27°C). These restrictions apply to the departing city, connection city and destination location. There are non-stop flights between San Diego and:
Atlanta, Boston, JFK, Detroit, Minneapolis, Seattle and Salt Lake City. Any other destinations would be a connection from these cities. Keep in mind that these connections may be too long for a baby goat to go without a bottle and you may need to drive to an airport further away.
